European resin producers were struggling to advance the April contract price beyond the Eur25/mt pass-through of ethylene this week due to poor market fundamentals. “We are obviously fighting to improve margins, but it’s difficult to get much more than the pass-through of ethylene. We are looking at a range of Eur25-35/mt [increase] on a caseby- case basis,” one producer said. The most competitive contract price for April was heard offered in March to-date at Eur20/mt month-on-month increase, but the majority of suppliers said there was no room for discussions below Eur25/mt. “I think the market is being pretty disciplined on this,” said one producer. He added that there was no incentive to push volume since average operating rates were estimated at between 70-75% for NWE.
