EDC: The US ethylene dichloride assessment was steady week on week, assessed Thursday at $265-275/mt FOB USG, following August bids heard at $240-250/mt FOB USG, against one offer heard at $300/mt. “Pretty quiet out there, relatively quiet markets. We expect September to get more active,” one trader source said. In feedstocks, Platts assessed US spot ethylene Thursday at 54.25- 54.75 cents/lb -- a 1.25 cent/lb decline week on week -- as July was heard traded at 53.375 cents/lb MtB Wms and, after close of assessment, at 54 cents/ lb MtB Wms. The US chlorine assessment gained $10/st week on week, assessed Tuesday at $215-$225/st FOB plant, on weakened co-product caustic soda demand, which was heard leading to an increase in chlorine prices, according to market sources.
