The European butadiene market was seen balanced this week as the return of production units was offset by outages or upcoming shortages at other sites. At the same time, there was no movement of material into or out of the region as US spot prices retreated, dragged down by even more bearish prices in Asia. With US contracts agreed at a rollover and spot prices also in the low 80s (cents/lb), the two regions were effectively close to parity. On top of this, sources said that US buyers were still keener on buying crude C4 rather than butadiene.
