Demand for purified terephthalic acid may be boosted as early seasonal demand from downstream polyethylene terephthalate started to emerge but structural demand remained weak and sentiment was consequently bearish. Sources said that most European PTA producers continued to operate at low production rates. Upstream, paraxylene spot prices were persistently weak, assessed at $1,425/ mt FOB ARA Friday, flat against the prior week. Sources said that PTA producers had no spot demand for PX, remaining satisfied by minimum contract volumes.
