Mexico’s Etileno XXI project is 56% complete and remains on track for an H2 2015 startup, sources with Braskem Idesa said this week on the sidelines of the 45th National Chemical Industry Forum in Mexico City. The project -- which has a fixed cost of around $3.2 million and is to include a 1 million mt/year ethane-fed steam cracker and three polyethylene lines with a combined capacity of around 1 million mt/year -- is a joint venture between Brazilian chemical giant Braskem and Mexican firm Idesa. Located in Veracruz state, the project will yield the first greenfield steam cracker in North America.
