European converters were seeking alternative supplies following the “sudden” announcement to close the petrochemical site in Grangemouth by Ineos. The company said Wednesday it would shut its petrochemical plant at Grangemouth in Scotland more than three years earlier than previously threatened, after failing to agree pay and pension cuts with its workers. Ineos said it would place the petrochemical business into administration and appoint liquidators within a week, after half of the site’s 1,370 workers turned down its cost-cutting proposals.
