The spotlight in the European high density polyethylene market was the Eur40/mt rise in the ethylene contract price for August to Eur1,210/mt FD NWE. The climb spurred increased offers in the spot market for all grades. In the injection market, offers were heard in a range of Eur1,320-1,340/mt FD NWE. “Converters say they are still able to buy at Eur1,300/mt FD NWE, which we find surprising,” one trader said, adding: “Melt 4 has completely disappeared from the market, there is better availability on melt 7 and melt 8”; another trader said: “There has been pre-buying this week as the whole of southern Europe is on holiday from next week.” Injection prices were assessed higher by Eur30/mt to Eur,1300-1,305/mt FD NWE.
