Ethylene trade in the region remained subdued this week, with no exports heard out of Mexico or Brazil, Latin America’s top olefins producers. The US was heard exporting out of Houston late last month, with Europe as the final destination. Mexico’s Pemex Petroquimica has not exported any ethylene volumes in 2013, as downstream demand has been healthy, sources said this week. In production news, The highly touted Etileno XXI project, which aims to boost Mexico’s polyethylene production by 1 million mt/ year by mid-2015, remains on schedule with 22% of the work completed, a Braskem executive said this week on the sidelines of the Plastimagen 2013 conference in Mexico City. “Our goal remains to go online and be producing material by June 2015,” said Braskem’s Jose Frederico Maciel, logistical director for the project.
