General-purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene domestic prices resisted change on the week as demand was heard decreasing as feedstock prices fall. HIPS domestic was assessed at 121 cents/lb delivered railcar Wednesday, and the GPPS domestic assessment was at 110 cents/lb delivered railcar. A source with a producer said demand had pulled back some, likely on the benzene outlook. Benzene prices have dropped since the beginning of the month, with US spot benzene for March assessed at 424 cents/gal FOB USG Wednesday, a fall of 16 cents on the week because of weakened demand in downstream derivatives.
