The Northwest European polystyrene benchmark trekked a further Eur10/mt higher to close the second week of March at Eur1,630/mt FD NWE. Gains were buoyed by a increase in feedstock costs and a generally tighter base of production. On a week-on-week basis, the FOB ARA styrene benchmark rallied $50.50/mt to close Wednesday at $1,685/mt, but remained $10/mt lower in comparison to prices at the beginning of the month. Sellers underscored a notable resistance in the market as polystyrene remained fairly expensive in comparison to other polymers, but increasingly, settlements were concluded at an increase of Eur30/mt over February at Eur1,630-1,640/mt FD NWE, sources said.
