GPPS: Asian general purpose polystyrene prices rose $18/ mt week on week to be assessed at $1,918/mt CFR China Wednesday, and rose $25/mt at $1,945/mt CFR Southeast Asia, on higher feedstock prices, low margins and rising offers from producers. Although styrene monomer dipped $4.50/ mt week on week to $1,825/mt CFR China Wednesday, its price was still hovering around record-high levels, putting pressure on end users’ margins. This week Taiwan’s Chi Mei raised its GPPS offer $20/mt to $1,940/mt CFR China, while Formosa Chemicals & Fiber Corp. kept its price at $1,920/mt CFR China.
