Price for 2013 ethanol RINs jumps 12.5 cents on strong demand

Houston — The price of 2013 US ethanol Renewable Identification Numbers were pegged by Platts at 92.5 cents/RIN Wednesday morning, up 12.5 cents from Tuesday’s assessment, as sources attributed the jump to strong demand. The US Environmental Protection Agency issues RINs to track renewable fuel usage throughout the supply chain. Refiners, importers and blenders — called “obligated parties” — use them to show the EPA that they have fulfilled their mandated government use of renewable fuels.
