The European spot price for paraxylene was assessed at $1,340/mt FOB ARA Friday, down $5/mt day on day, tracking the fall in Asia. On the week, the market fell $25/ mt compared to last week’s assessed level of $1,365/mt. The fall came despite a rise a in xylene prices, which highlighted continual margin erosion for producers. One source reported notional buy interest at around $1,335/mt FOB ARA as Europe maintained a $50/mt freight netback to the US market.
