A fall in contract prices across Europe for polystyrene extended this week, according to some sources, who reported decreases of up to Eur85/mt FD for term business. The downturn was prompted by a Eur92/mt decrease in the cost of contractual styrene, which closed for October at Eur1,450/mt FD. Decreases reported by suppliers now ranged from minus Eur60-85/mt and, even at the low of this range, buyers were heard testing a more competitive level, hoping to find suppliers keen to offload volume.
