A recent cold snap affecting regions of Argentina forced the government to curtail natural gas supply to industries including petrochemicals in order to deal with rising residential demand, sources and local media reported this week. Winter has become problematic for the petrochemical industry in the South American country. Dow Argentina, which operates two ethane-fed steam crackers (capacity 700,000 mt/year) in Bahia Blanca, for the production of polyethylene, was last heard importing ethylene last month as it dealt with feedstock supply constraints resulting from the onset of winter. No imports of ethylene into the region were heard by time of publication.
