An initial August contract price for European monoethylene glycol was settled at Eur975/mt FD NWE, up Eur90/mt from July, industry sources said Thursday. The settlement was between Indorama as a buyer with producer BASF, a source from BASF said. The increase was driven by the Eur140/mt jump in the August ethylene contract price. “It was on the higher side of our forecasts, but is still at an acceptable level,” one buyer said; a producer commented: “We are reluctant as Asian prices are rallying above $1,000/mt CFR and European spot prices are crossing Eur900/mt FD NWE.”
