US spot refinery-grade propylene dropped 6 cents/lb week on week, assessed Friday at 56-56.50 cents/lb delivered, losing 17.25 cents/lb since assessed at a 19-month high of 73.25-73.75 cents/lb on February 11, 2013. Several sources cited abundant RGP supply stemming from completed refinery turnarounds, followed by weakened polypropylene demand, which in turn pushed polymer-grade propylene prices lower. “PGP went too high too fast in January and February and there is no demand for it at this point. RGP is just a by-product in this new golden age of refining margins, especially with really cheap Canadian and US crude oil.
