In upstream news, the European March ethylene contract price settled at Eur1,325/mt FD NWE Wednesday, setting the direction for next month's polymer pricing. As integrated economics were being compressed by the ongoing strength of the upstream energy complex and underwhelming downstream demand, polymer producers were set to increase contract prices. One producer said his target for March would be an increase of Eur80-100/mt in the hope of restoring some margin on top of the ethylene cost pass-through, although he acknowledged that the task was made difficult by modest demand levels.
