Asian styrene monomer rose $27.50/mt week on week to $1,464/mt FOB Korea Friday and by $29.50/mt over the same period to $1,488/mt CFR China on tight supply and rising costs. The day-on-day increase was $19/mt for both benchmarks as the back-end of the forward curve rose in value. "I cannot find a big difference between the first and second half of October supply and demand situations," a South Korean producer said, indicating — as did several other market sources — that the inter-October backwardation should be no more than $5/mt.
