The Brazilian butadiene contract price for September was expected to settle at $1,820/mt FOB, down $150/mt from August, sources said. The decline was in line with the US Gulf contract which was settled down 6-7 cents/lb to 83-90 cents/lb, as Brazil usually tracks the US contractual with a month lag. Supply was anticipated to improve in the coming weeks as Braskem, the sole producer of butadiene in Brazil, added in June a new production capacity of 100,000 mt/year at its Triunfo complex in southern Brazil. A Brazilian cargo of 2,205/mt of butadiene for September was heard arriving to Mexico this week, but the pricing was not available by time of publication.
