EDC: No new activity was reported this week in the European EDC market. FOB prices were assessed flat at $247.50/mt FOB NWE. Margins for European ethylene dichloride were reported in negative territory as demand for chlorine applications continued to falter. “EDC production is generating three-digit losses, and the start number for those three digits is not in the low 100s,” a producer said Thursday. In turn, as the European August ethylene contract was at Eur1,185/mt ($1,466/mt) FD NWE and a conversion rate factor of 0.29, the cost of the ethylene that goes into EDC production was at Eur343.65/mt ($425/mt).
