Brazilian high density polyethylene (HDPE) FOT prices were under upward pressure after Brazilian producer Braskem announced this week a price increase of $150/mt for September contracts, compared to August based on higher production cost and limited availability. Braskem offers of HDPE were expected to be +/- $1,600/mt in September, sources familiar with the company operations said this week. Sources expected a similar price increase for October as some major Asian producers have scheduled turnarounds in the fourth quarter of the year, leaving short supply availability in the global polyethylene market.
