The US April butadiene contract price settled 7 cents higher to a split settlement of 152-162 cents/lb. ExxonMobil settled up 7 cents to 162 cents/lb, while TPC Group settled up 7 cents to 152 cents/lb. Shell and LyondellBasell each settled 10 cents higher to 155 cents/lb. Sources said it was the first time they had heard of a triple settlement. The US spot price was assessed 4 cents lower from April 5 to a range of 158.5- 159.5 cents/lb CIF USG on lower demand. It marked the first time since December 23, 2011, that the spot price was assessed lower than the contract price. Sources said demand for butadiene was weak, and supply was tight.
