PTA prices looked set to move higher as stronger xylene prices lent support. Mixed xylene outages in Europe had pushed up xylene prices in the US and paraxylene had posted notable gains since the beginning of the month. US spot PX prices were up $85 week on week to close Friday at $1,495/mt FOB USG. Demand was characterized as decent this week and sources said that downstream PET demand was strong.
