Suppliers and buyers reported tough September contract talks with both sides of the market digging in their heels, claiming the need to preserve fragile margins. Suppliers had moved from earlier contract indications of between plus Eur70-170/mt ($90-219/mt) and were now in a tighter band between Eur70- 120/mt FD. Some buyers were willing to accept Eur70/mt but strongly resistant to any price higher. Others reportedly could not accommodate an increase at all. The desire among suppliers to increase margin this month depended upon an uptick in demand.
