European 3-30 day styrene spot prices dropped $35/mt Friday from Thursday's assessed level of $1,513/mt as the firm buy sentiment that followed the declaration of force majeure Thursday eased. Prices closed up $34/mt from last week's assessment of $1,444/mt as Wednesday and Thursday saw rises following firm buy interest. By Friday, no deals were reported, and bids for April had dropped to $1,480/mt FOB ARA. April barges traded several times at $1,525/mt on Thursday as sources said the barges were destined to cover shorts due to the Shell outage.
