The spot export price rose 1 cent/lb, but demand was absent as traders had little interest in US cargoes. There was a producer offer at 74-75 cents/lb FAS Houston that traders rejected as there were lower priced options from overseas. New offers of Saudi and Thai LDPE were at $1,490- $1,510/mt FOB Shanghai (67.5-68.5 cents/lb). "There's no need to buy anything now because we have a lot of inventory," a trader said. Traders hoped Braskem would raise prices and that would let them sell off inventory into South America. Another trader commented that prices had reached such a high level in a period of weak demand that he was scared the market was set to fall.
