Participants in the US PET market reported higher prices this week on the back of increased feedstock prices. The US August paraxylene contract settled up 6.15 cents/lb to 69 cents/lb pushing PTA costs up roughly 4.12 cents/lb to near 59.50 cents/lb. Additionally, monoethylene glycol contracts rose 2 cents in August to settle at 45.50 cents/lb. The cost push was expected to move PET prices up by roughly 4.25 cents/lb, though the contract was not yet fully settled. Sellers had previously announced August increases of 5-6 cents/lb.
