Uganda picks Tanzania route for oil export pipeline

Kampala-The Ugandan government has finally chosen to export its crude via Tanzania rather than Kenya, ending years of negotiations over the pipeline route and clearing a key political hurdle for the region’s nascent oil sector. The planned 1,403-km (860-mile) pipeline is expected to carry up to 200,000 b/d of crude from Uganda’s oil fields in Hoima district in the Lake Albert Rift Basin to Tanga Port on the Indian Ocean, according to joint statement issued over the weekend.
