Rosneft sale in spotlight after bribery arrest

Moscow—Russia’s plans for the part privatization of its state-run oil giant Rosneft came under scrutiny Tuesday after the arrest of Russian Economy Minister Alexei Ulyukayev for bribery shocked the market and divided analysts on whether there will be any major impact on country’s biggest oil producer. Russia’s Investigative Committee arrested and later charged Ulyukayev for extorting a $2 million bribe for supporting Rosneft’s acquisition of a 50% stake in Bashneft earlier this year. The committee said Rosneft’s acquisition of Bashneft is not under investigation and the legality of the deal is not disputed.
