Statoil picks cheaper subsea plan for Snorre upgrade

Norway's Statoil said Thursday it had dropped the platform option for the extension of its Snorre oil and gas field in the North Sea, instead going for a cheaper subsea option. The Snorre field upgrade, called Snorre 2040, had been estimated to cost over $4 billion, with the more expensive platform option which Statoil had estimated would yield an additional 300 million barrels of oil.
