Calgary-Demand for storage space for offlease rail tank cars has been soaring in the US and Canada, as low crude prices and unfavorable differentials have led to a sharp decrease in crude-by-rail traffic in the past several months, industry sources say. Of the total 450,000 tank cars in North America, some 75,000 have now been idled, said George Bachar, North American rail car manager for AmSpec. AmSpec is an independent crude oil inspection and testing company headquartered in New Jersey.
