Barcelona—Spain’s Repsol has abandoned its exploration for oil and gas offshore the Canary Islands after test results from its first well showed insufficient potential for a commercial project. “The samples obtained in the exploratory survey known as Sandia confirmed the existence of gas, although without the volume nor quality to consider future extraction,” the company said in a note Friday.
