London—The UK’s Oil and Gas Authority has awarded 159 onshore exploration blocks to some 22 companies hoping to instigate a US-style shale revolution in England, chief among them refining and petrochemical giant Ineos. Although the awards were under the UK’s 14th Onshore Oil and Gas licensing round, around three quarter of the blocks awarded cover areas with unconventional shale oil or gas deposits, the authority said.
