EU to announce scope of new commodity rules

EU energy and commodity companies will find out Monday if they are likely to be treated as financial firms and subject to EU financial rules, EU financial authority ESMA said Friday. ESMA will include a test for “ancillary activity” in the multiple draft detailed regulatory technical standards it plans to publish Monday setting out how the EU’s updated markets in financial instruments legislation, MiFID II, should be implemented.
