London-Italy’s Eni has restarted oil production from its Goliat oil field in the Barents Sea off the coast of Norway after a gas leak forced a precautionary shutdown while ramping up output. Eni, which began output from the longawaited and much-delayed Arctic field on March 12, discovered a minor gas leak on April 17 during the final commissioning of the gas injection system, a company spokesman said. “Production of oil has been resumed and gas is being re-injected into the reservoir,” the spokesman said in emailed statement.
