Exxon calls on Europe to open up to shale

Paris-European governments should grant companies access to natural gas reserves by dropping objections to hydraulic fractur- ing in order for the industry to meet future growth for the fuel, ExxonMobil CEO Rex Til- lerson said Tuesday. Europe could have “significant and mean- ingful” natural gas potential, but countries including Germany and France had effectively banned fracking on environmental grounds, Tillerson told the World Gas Conference in Paris. Tillerson pointed to data from the US and Canadian experience showing shale gas production could be carried out safely.
