Afek finds large oil-bearing zone in Golan Heights

Tel Aviv—Afek Oil and Gas has discovered a large oil-bearing zone with the first exploration well on its acreage in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, a senior company official said late Tuesday. The Ness-5 well, which was completed earlier this year, encountered a 350 meters thick oil bearing strata, Afek chief geologist Yuval Bartov said in an interview on Israel’s Channel 2 television. Bartov said that there was a potential for a major oil discovery though further assessment was needed.
