New York—Complex refiners along the US Gulf Coast are in reveling in their ability to run a diverse slate of crudes, as sour crudes are giving much better margins than light, sweet crudes. Both the coking and cracking margin for Mars Sour, a medium sour from a Shell-operated field located 130 miles south of New Orleans, Louisiana, rose last week as the spot price of the crude lagged increases in US Gulf Coast yields.
