FACTBO X: Awaiting the final US Renewable Fuel Standard volumes

Washington—The US Environmental Protection Agency is nearing a November 30 deadline to finalize the long-awaited 2014, 2015 and 2016 Renewable Fuel Standard biofuels mandates, and the oil and biofuels industries have stepped up their lobbying and public relations campaigns in recent weeks. The RFS proposals, unveiled May 29, would require 15.93 billion gallons of biofuels— including corn-based ethanol, biodiesel, advanced biofuels and cellulosic biofuels—to be blended with US transportation fuels in 2014, 16.30 billion gallons in 2015 and 17.40 billion gallons in 2016.
