Gazprom Neft eyes first shale oil in 2019

Moscow-Russia’s Gazprom Neft plans to launch commercial production from the Bazhe- nov shale oil formation in West Siberia in 2019 despite delays to the project due to western sanctions, a company official said Tuesday. Russia is believed to have vast uncon- ventional oil reserves in the formations like Bazhenov in West Siberia but has been slow to test its potential so far, focusing on development of its depleting but still vast conventional oil fields, which are expected to suffice its domestic needs and exports for the near future.
