Bakken oil outlook uneasy after output dip

Washington—A production dip in September from the prolific Bakken Shale formation in North Dakota has triggered some unease amid producers and state regulators that a larger, prolonged supply slump may have begun. Capital spending cuts, further drilling delays and a move to other plays with better economics could prove the concerns over a sustained Bakken production slump to be true. At the same time, however, a combination of factors, including state policy changes and a potential influx of new investment, could steady North Dakota production levels in the near term.
