Tokyo-Four years since the devastating earthquake and subsequent nuclear outages, Japan’s crude and fuel oil consumption for power generation finally saw a sharp drop but still remain above pre-quake levels. Japanese power utilities have used an aver- age 265,216 b/d of crude and fuel oil in the first 10 months of fiscal year 2014-15 (April- March), according to data from the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan. This is well below the 417,772 b/d consumed in the previous fiscal year and a peak of 509,086 b/d consumed in 2012-2013, but still above the 190,543 b/d consumed in 2010-11.
