Japan refinery closures hit Qatari condensate sales

Tokyo—Qatar’s LPG, naphtha and condensates exports to Japan—one of its largest customers— fell by 3 million mt, or 21.4%, to 11 million mt in 2014 as a direct result of Japanese refinery closures, a senior official from state marketer Tasweeq said Wednesday. Qatar shipped an estimated 11 million mt in 2014, compared with 14 million mt in 2013, and 13 million mt in 2012, with most of the fall due to reduced condensates sales, Abdulaziz al-Meer, Tasweeq’s planning and performance director, said Wednesday at the Japan Cooperation Center Petroleum International Symposium in Tokyo.
