Russia’s LetterOne defies UK to buy RWE upstream

London-LetterOne, an investment vehicle of Russia’s Alfa Group, has defied opposi- tion from the UK government to complete the Eur5.1 billion ($5.7 billion) purchase of Dea, the upstream arm of Germany’s RWE. The completion of the deal was announced by RWE amid a standoff between the Russian buyer and the UK government fueled by wider UK-Russian tensions.
