Houston—The US oil rig count fell off a cliff Friday, with the Permian Basin bleeding the heaviest on a week when WTI crude inched into the mid-$30s/b and analyst conferences painted a glum near-term outlook. The Permian, located in West Texas and New Mexico, where production growth has slowed but continues to increase slightly, lost 15 rigs last week, according to the Baker Hughes rig count.
