Ecopetrol closes Cartagena refinery until mid-2015

Bogota—Colombia’s state-controlled Ecopetrol has shut the crude refining units at its Cartagena refinery on the Caribbean coast so that it can begin integrating its operations with the $6.5 billion Reficar refinery nearing completion on an adjacent site. An Ecopetrol source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said late Tuesday the 1950s-era refinery that normally produces 16,000 b/d of diesel and between 9,000 b/d and 12,000 b/d of gasoline will not reopen until Reficar begins operating sometime in the first half of 2015.
