US to buy crude from BP, Noble to restock reserves

Washington—The US Department of Energy said it will purchase 4.2 million barrels of crude from BP and Noble to refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The DOE said late last week it signed contracts with BP for 2.198 million barrels and Nobel for 2 million barrels, for a total of $239.2 million, or an average of about $57/b. Deliveries, which will be to the SPR's Bryan Mound site in Freeport, Texas, are expected to be completed by July 31, the DOE said. The agency did not specify in the announcement what type of crude it will buy, but in a notice last month, the DOE said it was seeking sweet crude.
