Encana turnaround ‘faster than expected’

Calgary—Encana, which unveiled a major reorganization in November, is already seeing a “faster-than-expected” turnaround, with debt being reduced by $1 billion in the first quarter of 2014, and the firm remaining on track for a steady growth of its asset portfolio, CEO Doug Suttles said Tuesday. “There is a greater focus on our asset base and we have been engaged in an active program to divest gas assets,” he said on a webcast to discuss the Canadian producer’s Q1 earnings. “Our teams have been very busy in the past few months and their efforts [are leading] to a more balanced portfolio.”
