Washington—The US Department of Transportation is still having difficulty getting Bakken drillers to provide sampling and testing data of their crude, which is hampering the agency’s efforts to tighten safety regulations on the rail transport of the oil, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said Wednesday. DOT has received samples and data from just three companies, he said during a hearing of a Senate Appropriations subcommittee. Foxx did not identify those companies, nor did he elaborate on how many other companies the agency is seeking samples from. “Unfortunately, we haven’t received robust samples from the industry to this point,” Foxx said. “We’ve requested that we get as much as we can. In a situation like this, the more samples we have, the better we can evaluate next steps.”
